UltraMedia™
The system of choice around the world

Worlds’ Leading Electronic Aerial Camera System

UltraMedia is the latest in an award winning series of ultra high performance aerial broadcast camera systems from FLIR Systems. UltraMedia is totally digital and uses the industry standard Sony BVP-T70 or BVP-550 camera. Mated to the Sony camera is a 72x Fujinon lens (36:1 with x2 extender) for really close shots and the ability to standoff when air traffic control limits your air crew’s access to the scene of broadcast events. Longer focal lengths require better stability and the UltraMedia delivers with a major advance in stabilization technology that means the image your audience sees is virtually jitter free even at maximum zoom.

INCREASED MAGNIFICATION – GREATER STANDOFF DISTANCES
Long Focal Length  UltraMedia’s extended focal length capabilities offer nearly a 50% increase in image magnification over competing systems -- for capture of high impact footage from even greater altitudes.
UNPRECEDENTED STABILIZATION – SUPERIOR IMAGES
<10 micro radians stability peak (<5 micro radians rms.) Advancements to FLIR’s proprietary 5-axis gyro-stabilized gimbal design, the UltraMedia provides ultra-stable, ultra-crisp images far superior to any other system in its class in the world.
PROVEN PERFORMANCE – UNMATCHED SUPPORT

UltraMedia Control PanelBacked by 20 years of experience, FLIR Systems Ultra Media products have earned a reputation for outstanding performance and reliability and they have become the system of choice for broadcasters throughout the United States. FLIR technology matched with Flying Pictures’ operational experience provides a solution that is now renowned throughout the world for a level of service and support that leads the industry.

Sony BVP-550 DSP Camera

The BVP-550 can connect to a PC for remote computer diagnostics and status display. An "integrated imaging capsule" lets users easily swap out the 4:3-aspect-ratio CCD imager FIT block, replacing it with a 16:9 block.

The Broadcast/Production Camera housed in the UltraMedia employs a new Power HAD CCD imager and a 12-bit advanced DSP. Improved dynamic range and lower noise expand picture-making capabilities. Increased control over image enhancement allows picture sharpness to be optimized for all forms of scene content. More flexible control of overexposed pictures allows for creative and artistic adjustments.

This is the perfect camera for the freelance shooter who plans for the new DTV era: for news gathering and documentaries, it makes superb pictures in low light, and for production it combines this same high quality picture capture with an extended range of creative video controls. It is available as standard 4:3 or 16:9 widescreen.

High S/N Ratio

The Digital Television (DTV) reality starts with field acquisition. The "Studio Quality" delivery of DTV to the home requires that the images be captured at the highest possible quality level.

Acquisition systems for DTV have several unique requirements. News production requires camcorders with switchable aspect ratios and differing compression methodology; studio/OB cameras require multiple aspect, multiple format output capability; field production camera systems must support formats that excel in multi-generation performance. Sony's acquisition systems are also task-oriented, feature low compression, and are 4:2:2 and 4:1:1 systems. The dream of high definition systems at an affordable cost is now a reality, as is the need for these systems to work in an PAL/NTSC/SDTV environment.

Production

Sony complements the enormous image-making potential of our post production systems by offering the most complete line-up of digital and analog camcorders and portable acquisition systems available. For the maximum creative freedom in either HDTV or SDTV, Sony has the right imaging tools to fit your production requirements.

Camera head

Some of out UltraMedia Syatems are fitted with the OHB-T450WS 520K "IT" 16:9/4:3 switchable Imaging Capsule for BVP-570/550 with BKP5901. This allows wide screen 16:9 or conventional 4:3 production shooting.

New 2/3-inch Power HAD FIT or IT

New state-of-the-art CCD imagers produce very high resolution, extended dynamic range, superb colourimetry, the industry’s highest signal to noise, and lowest vertical smear (for this CCD technology).

New Advanced 12-bit DSP

Sony-developed advanced DSP provides the most sophisticated digital video processing that enhances basic resolution, extends image enhancement capabilities, provide more flexible control of colorimetry, adds greater control on over-exposed signal levels, and extends operational features and facilities.

More Powerful Control Over Image Enhancement

Allows picture sharpness to be optimized for all forms of scene content.

More Flexible Control on Over-Exposed Pictures

Allows creative and artistic adjustments to produce images that rank with the famed "film look."

High S/N Ratio

High sensitivity in combination with a 65dB signal to noise ratio allows startlingly clear color images to be captured in deep shadowed scenes. With the lens wide open and maximum gain of 30dB a full level luminance video is created with only 2 Lux of incident light.
