Job openings for Camera Operators in the USA

We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced camera operators to join our team on the road. We have ongoing contracts on a number of blimps where we provide continuously gyrostabilised camera systems and microwave vision links for both live and recorded transmissions of major televised sporting events across America. We are specifically looking for people who are experienced broadcast camera operators with both networked outside broadcast and live microwave link experience.

You will be working within the overall blimp team and be responsible for providing some of the most exciting television aerial coverage for both local and network transmission in America.  You will be working with top of the range video equipment and state of the art microwave transmission systems on some of the most prestigious blimps in the world.

Team

You will be working as part of the Sponsors Blimp team. The team members comprise the Account manager(s), pilots, engineers, crew chiefs and riggers most of whom are employed by The Lightship Group. As a Flying Pictures Live Employee you are expected to integrate with the other members of the team. You will travel and stay in the same accommodation as the Blimp team  as it travels across America from event to event.

Pre Event

You will be required to liaise on a technical level with the broadcasters Television production team. You are required to assume technical responsibility for the blimp coverage of the event. Typically there will exist a contract between the television company/production team and the airship operation. This will detail the sponsor’s requirements and the obligations for coverage accepted by the television production. It is your responsibility to ensure that the airship is ready to provide the facilities in order to ensure primarily that the sponsor’s message is carried in the best light and to also provide facilities that will enhance the broadcast.

On site

Meet with the Blimp Team prior to the day of the set-up, rehearsal or event to rig the microwave receiver and P/L talkback communication system at the site of the broadcast, test it and meet with the event director. This is typically a stadium, golf course or race track.

A rigger from the blimp Team will provide to operate the receive dish during the event and therefore, you will have to brief this nominated person. You will then return to the take off field and rig the camera to the airship if this has not already been done.

During the broadcast you will be required to provide outstanding coverage of the event from the blimp camera under the direction of the host broadcast director.

After the event, you then return to the event site and de rig the microwave equipment and the P/L talkback radios and return them to storage. The initial de-rig may be carried out by the rigger. It is your responsibility to ensure that all of the equipment is returned, checked and stored correctly.

Maintenance

You are responsible for the safe transit, packing, storage and operation of all of the FP Live equipment. You are required to maintain this in a clean, serviceable and efficient manner. Care must be taken to ensure that the equipment is cleaned, dried, checked and stored at the end of each event and that any faulty equipment is repaired prior to the next event.  Training will be provided on site allowing familiarization with the equipment and the camera system operation.

Marketing Support

You will be required to assist in the marketing of the ships facilities and services when your workload permits. The Lightship team employ an efficient and innovative marketing team to address the appropriate needs of the particular sponsor.  You will be required to assist this team under the direction of the Lightships Account manager at a local level in securing on air coverage for the sponsor. The nature of the tasking and the level of contact will vary from ship to ship but will generally comprise notification of leads to the account manager and co-ordination with local Broadcast stations. The requirement is to maximize the coverage potential for the client and to represent the client in the best possible light both to the local media and to the broadcasters in order to ensure continuing and ongoing fruitful relationships.
